Durrës for three days was a strip of the Italian coast to welcome a great celebration of the sea. The Giro d'Italia sailing tour departed from Genoa on June 15 and with a final stop in Venice on July 20 made an exception and from Catanzaro set its bow toward the Albanian coast.
From July 6 to 9, Durres was graced by stands of the Navy and Guardia di Finanza of Italy, with big screens, music , and above all, many races. The Italian Sailing Tour is an event of the Navy's Nastro Rosa Tour, organized by Defense Services and Sailing Series International in cooperation with Enit - National Tourism Agency and the Italian Sailing Federation.
At 1492 miles, it is the longest regatta in the Mediterranean .Each leg features exciting competitions in three different categories.
There are the offshore races (offshore) in which the foi-equipped Bénétau Figaro Class 3s compete. They are monotypes designed by Van Peteghem, Lauriot, Prevost (VPLP), 10.85 meters long and capable of reaching high speeds
Then there are the (inshore) races between the Waszp acrobatic dinghies, beautiful to watch as they seem to fly over the water with their foil.
Third type of competition is between sailboards (boards) in the WingFoiling class
Great was the participation of citizens of Durrës who shared the enthusiasm of the participants in the Giro d'Italia sailing race and appreciated the organizers' choice to include a non-Italian city among the stages of the race.Another sign of the closeness between the two countries.
