Durrës mayor honors the Border Guard Unit of the Finance Police 

Important recognition by the Municipality of Durres to the Italian Guardia di Finanza Maritime Frontier Unit (NUFROM) present in Albania since 1997 with a headquarters in Durres and a center in Vlora, 

Durrës Mayor Emiriana Sako presented Guardia di Finanza Commander General Andrea De Gennaro with the certificate of recognition "Evidence of public merit and active citizenship."

The ceremony was held on Feb. 10 in the premises of the Durres Municipality, also attended by the commander of the maritime border unit, Major Francesco Della Corte, Prefect Emiljan Jani and the actual officers of this unit.

The mayor explained the meaning of the ceremony as follows, "A sign of deep respect and gratitude for the tireless commitment, professional excellence and essential contribution to the safety and well-being of the community made by the Guardia di Finanza with dedication and professionalism for 28 years."

General De Gennaro stressed that the awarding of the prize "was a concrete testimony to the dedication of the Guardia di Finanza and a demonstration of mutual respect and love, sealing the bonds of friendship and closeness between this force and the people of Durrës." General De Gennaro expressed his "gratitude to the leaders and all personnel of the Guardia di Finanza,for their constant commitment to support the Albanian police force and to the citizens of Durres and all of Albania. ."
NUFROM performs tasks of assistance, advice and training to the Albanian State Police in the specific area of combating illicit trafficking perpetrated by sea.
The 'intensive exchange of information between the NUFROM in Durres, the UCI through the IMOC Seconded Officer, the Albanian State Police and the Guardia di Finanza Naval Departments in Italy, allowed to intercept and stop powerful vessels intent on trafficking drugs from Albania to Italy. This is a synergy between Italian and Albanian Police Forces, which has enabled them to bring numerous criminals to justice and deal significant blows to illicit trafficking by sea.

 considerable operational achievements in the area of illicit trafficking by sea. 

But there is not only police activity in the aims of NUFROM. It,in fact, has provided great support in many educational and social projects, but also in emergency situations and natural disasters that have affected Albania, particularly during the Durres earthquake.
