MELONI EUROPE AND TRUMP'S AMERICA

The Prime Minister has embarked on a daring venture whose risks are considerably higher than the possibility of its success.
Meloni aims to maintain an equidistance-or "equivicency"-between the EU and Trump. Commendable commitment, if the outcome depended on her. But it is not.
The chances of Italy being the last hinge capable of holding the two sides of the Atlantic together are practically nil.For the simple reason that Trump has already made his choice :he wants to humiliate Europe, hit it economically, delegitimize it politically, marginalize it in the game of the Great Powers.
Italy has no concrete means to change the White House's mind or dampen this anti-European hangover triggered by Trump. The U.S. president is not a character who walks a fine line or listens to calls for common sense. He only understands the language of force. And what force can Italy playing alone bring to the table? None .
From Trump's point of view, Italy can only be useful if it acts as a pick that permanently blows up any hypothesis of consolidation of the European Union, of which our country nevertheless remains a backbone. Otherwise, better Orban.
Unfortunately, Meloni is under the illusion that she can mitigate this America's anti-European hysteria. And it does her little good to credit herself in the White House as a leader who disagrees with many of the EU's choices.
Either this way or that way:that is what matters to the "new sheriff of the city," as defined by 'the other super champion of anti-Europeanism J.D.Vance.
Meloni's attempt is unfortunately doomed to failure,
barring unlikely miracles. It is , on the other hand, certain the risk that this attitude causes Italy to run: in order to attempt the impossible moral suasion toward Trump, our country will isolate itself from the concert of France, Germany and even Britain, which is acting as if it is back in the EU.These countries will go their own way and Italy will appear increasingly irrelevant. It will not bring Trump closer to Europe and it will distance Italy from the great powers of the EU. A very dangerous game even if inspired by good intentions.
