Migrants.The misunderstood understanding

Migrants.The misunderstood understanding

The agreement between Giorgia Meloni and Edi Rama is a win-win operation for Rome and Tirana. And it is a deft move by the Prime Minister to take away Salvini's initiative on the migrant issue, which had made the League regain some consensus. Oppositions react disproportionately and disproportionately. Some even speak of a kind of Italian Guantanamo in Albania. exaggerating with words does not do a good job. If the oppositions have concerns they should express them in a serious way with proposals, without always crying wolf. Let's go in order.

What Albania gains is quickly said. It gains merit and credibility towards Italy and towards Europe. It can demonstrate to EU members that it is a serious, generous country that even though it is not yet part of the European family lends a concrete hand. In short, it accelerates its race toward membership in the Union.

What's in it for Italy? An easing of migratory pressure on Lampedusa and the centers where the greatest burden of uncontrolled flows is discharged. But not only this. If the operation is well organized it can be an example to be replicated elsewhere with other purposes.

For example, reception centers could be built in Mediterranean countries under Italian or rather European jurisdiction. In these centers one should proceed to identify all those who want to come to Europe by taking them away from the mafias of human traffickers and thus regulate the outflows.

Returning to the identification center and the CPR in Albania, obviously many points will have to be clarified to comply with European and international regulations. And the rights of individuals and families of migrants will have to be guaranteed. Oppositions should take care of this by being vigilant and not by hurling improper words. This is not-as some irresponsibly say-a deportation plan.

What we fail to do adequately in Italy will be done in Albania. Involving a friendly country also widens the belt of control of migration flows from the Balkan area. Albania is not Rwanda. It is a safe, reliable, cooperative country. It will be up to us to make a good impression in the "land of eagles" by showing how a sensitive issue can be handled with civility, humanity and efficiency. On the success of this complex operation also depends the weight Meloni must try to gain in relations with the EU.
