Trump has demonstrated on two occasions that America is truly "Great" when it takes on important global responsibilities and does not close in on itself in an isolationism that would spell its demise.
When Trump decisively bombed Iranian nuclear sites, he made it clear that the United States cannot tolerate one state equipping itself with a nuclear weapon with the specific intent of annihilating another state, in this case, that of Israel whose destruction the ayatollahs preach. America must not export democracy by force but must prevent, if necessary by force, someone from wanting to eliminate a democratic country.
When Trump forced Netanyahu to back down from his crazy, failed strategy and made a historic breakthrough in the bloody Middle East issue that has been dragging on for 50 years, he did what a great power must do: help friends, like Israel, but not give in to policies that do not help end a destabilization of a sensitive area like the Middle East.
We expect Trump now to resolve the conflict triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It will not be easy but it is imperative that America take charge of resolving an absurd war that has twisted international law and could set a dangerous precedent. The European Union has a duty to put up a united front with Trump to resolve iil conflict.
An America becoming a factor of true peacemaking in the world's most delicate chessboards is what is needed to revive the international role of the United States and demonstrate that while dictatorships wage wars, democracies do not stand by but do whatever is necessary to restore peace. It is the only way to prevent the emerging Chinese power from cornering the free and democratic world in the medium term.
