Awaiting the arrival in February of the splendid sailing ship Amerigo Vespucci, the port of Durres for three days is hosting another jewel from our Navy, the training ship Palinuro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From July 30 to Aug. 2, the ship housing the 2nd year cadets of the normal marshal course of the helmsman category of the Taranto NCO schools can be visited by citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is a bergantine<\/em>, a masted schooner brig with the third mast at the stern. The foremast is forward with square sails, while the mainmast and mizzen mast are armed with auric sails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Built in the Nantes shipyards in France in 1934, the Palinuro was purchased by Italy in 1951 and joined the Amerigo Vespucci, replacing the Cristoforo Colombo that had been ceded to the USSR as war damage reparations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reconfigured and modernized in the Castellammare di Stabia shipyards, the sailing ship Palinuro has sailed the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, crossed the Strait of Gibraltar and stopped at about 200 ports since 1955. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It is 59 meters long overall, 10 meters wide,with a draft of 4.8 meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The sail area formed by 15 sails is about 1,000 square meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The ship's motto is \"Faventibus Ventis\" \"In favor of the winds.\" The crew consists of 84 sailors<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In attesa dell’arrivo a febbraio dello splendido veliero Amerigo Vespucci, il porto di Durazzo per tre giorni ospita un altro gioiello dalla nostra Marina militare, la nave scuola Palinuro.
