On June 25th, the award ceremony-event will take place in Piazza di Spagna to celebrate journalism in all its forms and the strength of the relationship with the public, alongside the most important figures in international journalism.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To support and protect the bravest and most rigorous journalism in defense of one of the vital pillars of democracy and freedom, and to encourage a plurality of languages: this is the goal of the 18th edition of the Biagio Agnes Award - International Award for Journalism, Information, and Communication. During today's press conference, Rai CEO Giampaolo Rossi explained the value of this award and the role of journalism and communication in all its languages, recalling that \u201cNever before has journalism been such a driving value and the sentinel that guarantees that public debate and access to knowledge tools are essential.\u201d A strong call, therefore, to the responsibility of storytelling, to the necessity of information that serves as a public service, a democratic safeguard, and a bridge between institutions and citizens. The jury, chaired by Gianni Letta, has selected the award recipients, identifying the best professionals in the Italian information landscape, spanning print and television, new media languages, and literature, who contribute every day to guaranteeing citizens free, informed, and in-depth knowledge of events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mara Venier: Human Value as the Foundation of the Profession<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, Mara Venier, who will host the awards ceremony along with Alberto Matano, spoke. The host recalled her personal connection with Biagio Agnes, for whom she was a witness at his wedding, offering a story that becomes a symbol of the value of relationships that support the profession and painting a portrait of Agnes's great human depth. The journalist must, first and foremost, be at the service of humanity, called to embody the values of relationship, listening, and care. \u201cThe common thread that accompanies this award is not entirely about journalistic excellence; there's something more; the strength of the emotional bond that Biagio managed to create and which still resonates with everyone. A bond of love.\u201d And with the same enthusiasm, it was announced that the lifetime achievement award will go to Lino Banfi, a popular and beloved figure whose career represents a shared cultural heritage. Simona Agnes, Biagio Agnes's daughter and president of the eponymous Foundation, emphasizing the narrative and emotional strength of a performer capable of captivating generations, reiterated how \u201cprofessionalism and empathy are fundamental values of the Award and of Rai.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Double date for the public<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The awards ceremony will take place in Rome, in Piazza di Spagna, on June 25th in the presence of Mayor Roberto Gualtieri and the Councilor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism, and Fashion Alessandro Onorato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An event that draws a live audience, in one of the capital's landmark venues, and which will be followed by airing on July 3rd, to reach all viewers' homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The journalist is of the people and for the people, this is the message that runs through the 2026 edition of the Biagio Agnes Award, an invitation to recognize the value of those who tell the story of the country every day with passion, responsibility, and dedication. Especially in a time of rapid and profound transformations, their task is to safeguard the meaning and correct interpretation of reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award recipients: different voices and languages united by the same mission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Under 30 Award is presented to Il Messaggero journalist Valentina Pigliautile, representing the sensitivity of a new generation attentive to the institutional and social transformations of the country. The Print Award goes to Paolo Bricco, correspondent for Il Sole 24 Ore, for his ability to delve into economics and industrial policy with analytical rigor and historical depth. The Correspondents Abroad Award is assigned to Giovan Battista Brunori, head of the Rai Bureau for the Middle East in Jerusalem, and Andrea Nicastro of Corriere della Sera, for their work dedicated to reporting on conflicts, borders, and clashes between peoples. For their testimony in the most crucial and sensitive locations, the Foreign Correspondents Award goes to Rosalba Castelletti of la Repubblica and Leonardo Panetta of Mediaset. The Special Press Freedom Award is attributed to La Stampa, its director Andrea Malaguti, and its editorial staff, following the attack and intimidation suffered by a group of Askatasuna antagonists on November 29, 2025, and for the courage demonstrated in the daily defense of their work and their autonomy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Television Award is bestowed upon Gerry Scotti, a long-standing figure in mainstream television, and Stefano De Martino, a symbol of a new generation of hosts capable of engaging diverse audiences with wit and naturalness. The Career Award is presented to Lino Banfi, in recognition of his unique talent and exceptional artistic journey spanning over six decades of Italian entertainment history. The Audiovisual Award celebrates the event series\u00a0Sandokan<\/em>, with Can Yaman, Alessandro Preziosi and Alanah Bloor, directed by Jan Maria Michelini and Nicola Abbatangelo, on the 50th anniversary of the historic Rai screenplay based on Salgari. The deputy director with responsibility for digital at La Gazzetta dello Sport, Arianna Ravelli, the first woman to hold this role in the publication's 130-year history, receives the Sports Journalism Award. The Digital Generation Award \u2013 Podcast goes to Andrea Gerli (Rai for Sustainability, and for the digital work of\u00a0In Half an Hour\u00a0<\/em>on Rai 3) and to Guglielmo Nappi, editor-in-chief and web manager of Il Messaggero. To Claudio Cerasa, director of Il Foglio and author of the book\u00a0The Antidote<\/em>, The Writer Journalist Award is presented for his critical and analytical perspective on the present. The Scientific Dissemination Award goes to Vincenzo Schettini, the face of\u00a0The physics we like<\/em>, for the academic competence and communicative talent that have made him one of the most followed science popularizers, especially among young people. Finally, the Creative Communication Award is given to the short film\u00a0Everyone plays Sanremo<\/em>\u00a0from the Rai Communication Directorate, taken from the promotional campaign for the Sanremo Festival 2026 hosted by Carlo Conti: a journey through the country's most beautiful musical realities, including the Conservatories, places of training and excellence, where collective energy has given life to an intimate and authentic portrait.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
