18 months of Trump's presidency and the record is a sequence of failures and humiliating U-turns.
1) I am super-taxed.
They were supposed to be the golden goose for the U.S. Treasury's exhausted coffers. They were rejected by the Supreme Court, even though it has a Trump-friendly majority. U.S. importers will receive reimbursements totaling approximately $200 billion. The ones who won't be reimbursed are American consumers, who paid the highest price for this reckless policy and spent more to purchase imported goods, hit by Trumpian tariffs. A flop to the detriment of U.S. citizens. And of exporters, especially Europeans, who absorbed a portion of the tariff costs.
2) Economic policy.
He was supposed to reduce inflation, usher in a new golden age, bring production back home (but an iPhone would have cost $3500...), and give voice to the interests of the people who voted for him, mistakenly believing they had found in a businessman - who had gone bankrupt 4 times through Chapter 11 proceedings - a new Robin Hood. Instead, inflation is rising, growth is stagnant, and employment is slowing. Meanwhile, oil tycoons are inflating their profits with the rise in crude oil and gas prices, the super-rich are seeing their incomes and dividends grow, protected by the Trumpian shield, while social spending is brutally cut. All that remains for the manipulated and defrauded people is an empty hand and the stupor of the binge that Trump has subtly fed them.
3) The policy against immigrants.
Brutally managed by the ICE militias, reduced to Trump's personal army, it has achieved some results, but at what cost? The barbarization of America, tarnished in its image as a once-civilized country, the reduction in the number of available workers for manufacturing companies, which see their growth prospects limited. The failure is also marked by the dismissal of both the head of ICE and the Secretary of Homeland Security, the one who enjoyed shooting her dog.
4) Domestic policy.
He has filled the Administration with incompetents and inexperienced yesmen with uncommendable personal histories. He has had generals and admirals fired just because they are women, black and unwilling to endorse sleazy choices. He used the National Guard to try to take power away from Democratic governors. He has humiliated Congress not only with waves of executive orders but by not even asking for authorization for war operations. He insulted the Federal Reserve Chairman every day just because he did not bend to his ill-considered diktats. He stripped State Department Chief Marco Rubio of the power to handle international crises by delegating it to his son-in-law Kushner and his partner in real estate deals Witkoff. Sniffing that the wind is blowing against him, ahead of the midterm elections in November,he is already preparing to say that they will be rigged elections if the Democrats win. He misses no opportunity to throw guano at influential journalists and editors who tell truths that are inconvenient for him; in some cases, these are even journalists who are his friends and who had pulled the wool over his eyes in the presidential election campaign. When the swear words do not get the result passed, Trump threatens to revoke television licenses of historic broadcasters .
4) The Epstein case.
Trump gained votes by promising to reveal everything. Then he changed his mind, and his most loyal Justice Minister, Pam Bondi, bent over backward to hide hundreds of thousands of files from Americans. She did it clumsily, and Trump fired her. And the few shreds of truth that are still emerging are forcing Trump to invent whatever he can to try to distract attention from the dirtiest affair of the last 20 years, the stench of which also extends into the corridors of the White House.
5) Foreign policy.
He was supposed to aim to make America great and has instead weakened the credibility and respectability of the United States in the world.Trump has disrupted the United Nations. He has debunked European allies. He has threatened to annex Canada and Greenland. He has betrayed Ukraine by taking away its aid and weapons and imposing on it the lace of rare earth exploitation . It has supported pro-Russian and neo-Nazi parties in Europe. It has struck at the heart of Nato-which it is part of. It antagonized India, which was eager to get away from China. It repeatedly violated international law by capturing Maduro and appropriating Venezuelan oil. He plans to take Cuba after depriving it of Venezuelan oil. It has pandered , without ifs and buts, to all Netanyahu's decisions. He legitimized the Gaza massacres by adding that disgusting Riviera plan and that Board of Peace antics. He illegally attacked Iran twice without succeeding in defeating it. It failed to protect the friendly Arab states in the Gulf that were bombed by Iran in their vital economic facilities . He has inflicted on the whole world the most serious energy crisis in history by failing to unblock the Strait of Hormuz. In this delirium , made up of bombastic proclamations, saying everything and the opposite of everything, smarmy international bully . Surrounded by a sect of exaggerated fanatical witch doctors who also think they are religious ...he has offended the Pope and the symbols of the Christian religion.
In exchange, the great president gifted the international stage to Putin, a war criminal like Netanyahu. He removed him from the isolation he had been confined to as an international pariah, unblocked his oil sales by easing sanctions, and gave oxygen back to the Russian economy which was, so to speak, at its last gasp. And he pretended not to notice that Moscow's secret services were meanwhile helping Iran to strike American bases in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait.
Xi Jinping, the great president, has agreed to continue covertly helping Russia in the war against Ukraine and to assist the IRGC by making his spy satellites available to them. Trump made China a credible, trustworthy, moderate, and prudent giant, the exact opposite of the image that the United States of America has today.
Some even feared that Trump wanted to use nuclear weapons against Iran. An unfounded fear, because the generals the US president needs to pull the nuclear trigger have brains and would never lend themselves to such recklessness: they would rather pull some other trigger.
A devastating bomb Trump dropped: against his country, causing the United States to lose dignity, honor, credibility, and transforming America from the homeland of modern democracy into a bad copy of democracies, from a builder and guarantor of a world balance, albeit precarious, into an agent of chaos, violation of rules, and international relations: a helpless and self-harming puppet, a friend of enemies and an enemy of friends. Today, Iran enjoys humiliating and holding it in check.
Should I add more?
